Short version of the whole page: I collect the minimum needed to build your nook, ship it to you, and stay in touch if you've asked me to. I never sell your data, and most of it never touches my hands directly — it lives with the platforms that process it (Wix, payment providers, couriers). Here's the detail, chapter by chapter, same style as the Terms & Conditions: each starts with an "In short."
1. Who is responsible for your data
In short: Me — the maker behind Nook Mini.
Nook Mini is operated by a sole trader based in New Zealand. For anything privacy-related, I'm the one to contact: info@nookmini.com. No department, no ticket queue — just me.
2. What I collect, and why
In short: Order details to fulfil your order, your email if you join the list, and anonymous-ish analytics to understand the website.
When you place an order (website): Name, email, shipping address, and phone number (couriers require it for international delivery) Your order details and order history Why: to build, pack, ship, and support your nook, and to keep the records NZ tax law requires me to keep. Legal basis (for EU folks): performance of a contract, and legal obligation. For international fulfilment I may also need to process shipment/customs information such as product description, order value, country of origin and tariff/customs information required by postal operators, customs authorities or clearance partners. When you pay: payment is processed by the payment provider(s) made available at checkout. I do not receive or store your full card details. Those providers process payment data under their own privacy policies. When you join the mailing list: Your email address (and name if you give it) Why: to send you the occasional Nook Mini update — I email rarely and only when there's genuinely something to say. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw anytime with the unsubscribe link in every email. When the website shows regional purchase, currency or delivery information: The site may use information such as your browser language/region, IP-derived country, a saved country/currency preference, and the delivery country you enter at checkout. Why: to show the most relevant purchase option, currency, delivery and import information and to help prevent a regional product option being used for the wrong delivery country. Nook Mini does not use your device's GPS or collect your precise physical location for this purpose. When you buy on Etsy: Etsy handles your data under Etsy's own privacy policy. I only receive what's needed to fulfil your order. I never add Etsy buyers to my mailing list unless you separately and explicitly opt in — that's both Etsy's rule and mine. When you browse the website: Standard analytics data via cookies — pages visited, device type, rough location, how you found the site. See chapter 3. When you email me: Whatever you choose to send, kept so I can actually help you (warranty claims, for example, are much easier when I can see our history). 3. Cookies & analytics
In short: Essential cookies make the site work. Analytics and marketing cookies only run with your consent — you choose in the cookie banner.
The website uses three kinds of cookies: Essential cookies (Wix): make the site, cart, and checkout function. These can't be switched off — nothing works without them. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4): help me understand how people use the site — which pages work, which don't. Data is aggregated; I'm looking at patterns, not at you. Marketing cookies (Meta Pixel): help me measure whether the small amount of advertising I do actually reaches people who care about tiny lit worlds. Visitors from the EU (and other regions with consent requirements) are shown a cookie banner and can decline non-essential cookies — the site works perfectly without them. You can also clear or block cookies anytime in your browser settings.
4. The AR app
In short: The app needs your camera to open the gate. What the camera sees is processed on your device — it is not stored or sent anywhere.
The Nook Mini companion app uses your device camera solely to recognise your nook and display the characters inside it. The camera feed is processed on your device in real time. The app does not record, store, or transmit your camera images, and does not require an account. If this ever changes in a future version (it isn't planned), this policy and the app store listings will be updated first, and you'll be told clearly.
5. Who I share data with
In short: Only the services needed to get a nook from my workshop to your shelf. Nobody gets your data for money — ever.
Wix — hosts the website/store and related customer/order functions. Payment providers made available at checkout — process payment under their own privacy policies. Postal operators, couriers, customs authorities and customs-clearance partners — receive information required to transport and clear international parcels. This may include your name, delivery address, email/phone where required, product/order description, value, country of origin and other customs information. Google / Meta or other analytics/advertising providers — only where those services are actually active and the relevant consent/legal basis applies. Etsy — where an order is made through Etsy, under Etsy's own privacy framework. Accountant, tax authorities or other authorities — where records must be provided to comply with law. I do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.
6. Where your data lives
In short: With international platforms (Wix, Google, Meta), so some data is stored outside your country — protected by those platforms' safeguards.
Nook Mini uses international service providers, so personal information may be stored or processed outside New Zealand and outside your own country. Where required, those providers use contractual, organisational or legal safeguards for international data transfers. Their own privacy policies provide further detail.
7. How long I keep things
In short: Orders: 7 years (tax law). Mailing list: until you leave. Everything else: no longer than needed.
Order and payment records: 7 years, because New Zealand tax law says so — not because I enjoy paperwork. Mailing list: until you unsubscribe (one click, in every email, no hard feelings). Emails/support history: kept while relevant — warranty support is genuinely easier with history. Analytics/marketing data: retained according to the settings and retention periods of the analytics/marketing services actually used, subject to the consent choices and legal requirements that apply.
8. Your rights
In short: Ask me what I hold about you, fix it, or have it deleted. One email does it.
Wherever you live, you can email info@nookmini.com to: Ask what personal data I hold about you (access) Correct anything that's wrong Have your data deleted (where the law doesn't require me to keep it — tax records have to stay their 7 years) Withdraw consent for marketing at any time (or just hit unsubscribe) If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, you additionally have GDPR rights to data portability, restriction, and objection, and the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In New Zealand, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. In Australia, to the OAIC. I'd naturally appreciate the chance to sort it out directly first — chapter 11 of the T&C applies to privacy too. Some information cannot be deleted immediately where I have a legal obligation or legitimate legal need to retain it, for example tax/accounting records, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or establishing/defending legal claims. Where that applies, I will explain it.
9. Children
In short: The website and mailing list are for adults.
Nook Mini's website, store, and mailing list are not directed at children under 16, and I don't knowingly collect their data. (Nooks make wonderful gifts for younger readers — but the buying and the emails are grown-up business.)
10. Changes to this policy
In short: If it changes, the date at the top changes — and for anything meaningful, you'll hear about it.
I may update this policy as the business or the law evolves. The current version always lives on this page with its "last updated" date. Meaningful changes affecting mailing list members will be flagged by email.
